Mayor’s concern over Newport vaccine roll-out
Written by Harvey Williamson on January 5, 2021
Newport is being left behind in the effort to vaccinate vulnerable people from coronavirus, its mayor claimed.
Peter Scott, mayor and borough councillor in Newport, said that he is aware of several people in their 80s and 90s who have not yet been offered vaccination slots.
He said that elderly people in Newport are becoming worried that they have not yet been given the chance to be vaccinated.
“I am getting a lot of enquiries,” he said. “I am very upset that the people of Newport, especially our elderly, are not being given the information they need. Other areas are getting their vaccinations but there is no news for Newport residents.
“Whatever the planned rollout date we need to know it now. The flu vaccine was distributed with little fuss. How is this any different?”
Health service sources have been approached for comment.
