Magnitude 2.5 earthquake hits the county in the early hours
If you were lying in your bed in the early hours of this morning and the earth moved for you, you weren’t imagining it. A small earthquake hit Shropshire just before 2am.
The 2.5 magnitude earthquake wasn’t powerful enough to cause significant damage but it was felt by residents of Newport, Market Drayton, Whitchurch, Telford and Willaston.
The British Geological Survey says it struck at 1.49am at a depth of 3km in the Hodnet area at a location of 52.844 -2.598. It’s the second earthquake to hit the county this year, the other being on January 1 with a magnitude of 1.6.
