Newport Pass It On event hailed a great success

The recent Pass It On event run by a local environmental group has been hailed a great success by organisers.

Sustainable Newport invited local residents to pass on their unused goods at a ‘freecycling’ event held for the first time at their new location in Newport Library.  Participants were encouraged to bring items and take them away in order to give unwanted items new homes and thereby reduce landfill waste, as well as conserving energy and natural resources.

Susanne Bearblock event organiser told Nova FM “This was a fantastic result for our first Pass It On event held at our new location, and we are looking forward to putting on two further events this year.”

The event had its highest number of attendees yet with 81 people participating. 589 items were diverted from landfill (weighing 183 kilos in total) according to Sustainable Newport.  Newport Library Manager Kirsty Finchett noted that the library was much busier than normal for a Saturday and had a great buzz too.
