Newport Rugby Club will hold a minute’s silence for Jason Francis and his long-term partner Alice Robinson before Saturday’s match against Nuneaton.
Jason, who was 29, died after being struck by a car in Perth, Australia on December 22. Alice died a short time later.
Jason, known to his teammates as “Franna” played rugby for Newport and Bridgnorth and football for Market Drayton Town FC. More recently, he played for Cottesloe Rugby Club in Western Australia.
Newport Rugby Club is inviting those who wish to pay tribute to the young couple to attend the match, which begins at 2.15pm. Jason’s family will also be in attendance.
A Crowdfunding page has been set up to raise funds for the families of the couple. It has raised more than $44,000 Australian dollars (approximately £24,000) in addition to funds raised by Bridgnorth and Newport rugby clubs.
