About us

Nova FM took to the airwaves on 7th January 2012. Serving a population of approx 15,000 people, Nova FM broadcasts 24 hours a day on FM and on the Internet from studios in the High Street. The station provides a community radio service designed to inform and entertain the local community through combining a diverse mix of music, local news, sports and information about local community events, services and good causes.

Nova FM is a trading name of Radio Nova Limited, a not-for-profit company which is limited by guarantee, registered in England & Wales, registration number 7826637. Our registered address is 139 High Street, Newport, Shropshire TF10 7BH. The company is represented by a management team, headed up by two directors who are elected to their positions every 12 months by a majority vote. This means that any and all profits are ploughed back into Nova FM in order to further improve the station and the skills of the station’s volunteers. The management team meet on a regular basis to hold meetings to discuss the operational activities of the station and it is during these meetings that we encourage each and every volunteer the opportunity to have their say, offer suggestions and to participate fully in operational duties.

Staffed entirely by volunteers, some of themselves, members of this community, Nova FM aims to interact with the community of Newport and surrounding areas and give local people the chance to voice their opinions and have their say on local issues affecting them as well as others of the community. Our aim is to foster closer interaction and to promote ‘Social-Cohesion’ across all members of the community. In addition, we aim to apply for a full-time community radio license from the regulator, Ofcom when the next round of community license grants are advertised for this area, which is widely expected to be in the fourth quarter of 2013.

About us

Our volunteers are as diverse as they are individual and we attract people from all walks of life. Our volunteers currently consist of Electricians, Sales people, University and Secondary School Students, Nurses, Training and IT personnel. We believe that by involving everyone who volunteers with us in the running and manning of the station, we can deliver the best possible service to our listeners. By becoming involved with Nova FM, we are committed to ensuring that (where reasonably possible) the individual skills and talents held by all our volunteers are put to best use for the benefit of the station and the community in which it serves.
